The Jei Africa Dissertation Award for Filipino American Studies

The Jei Africa Dissertation Award for Filipino American Studies is generously provided by CSPP Alumnus, Dr. Jei Africa. Dr. Africa graduated from the Clinical Psychology, PsyD program in 2002 and completed the Postdoctoral Masters in Clinical Psychopharamcology program in 2007.

Dr. Africa was born and raised in the Philippines and is now a clinical psychologist who is certified as an additional and domestic violence counselor.

Students can submit their dissertation/project research proposal for consideration. One recipeint will be chosen to receive up to $1,000.00 in reimbursement for research costs. Students in the Clinical Psychology PhD and PsyD programs from any campus are welcome to apply.

2. An abstract of up to 100 words

3. A description of your project (3 pages maximum) that includes:
Purpose of the study and main research hypothesis/quesitons. Be sure to specifically describe how your research relates to Filipino American Studies.
Theoretical rationale/relevant background literature
Research Methods

4. References (1 page maximum) cited in the text of your funds proposal *

Please provide a list of planned expenses.

Be sure to provide an explanation for an item if the reason for that expenditure is not self-evident.

Criteria:
1. Monies cannot be used for tuition or living expenses

2. Monies cannot be used for research that is already fully completed (as defined by already passing
final dissertation defense or, when applicable, completion of pre-dissertation research project write up).

3. Movies cannot be used to cover tasks that a student is required to master as a student in the degree program (for example: paying someone to write portions of the dissertation, or paying a statistics consultant to conduct statistical analysis for SPSS.
Funds can only be used for direct expenses of conducting research projects that are proposed or in progress.

4. If you are awarded funds, you must submit original receipts for expenses and will be reimbursed afterwards for the amount of funds pre-approved for your research project. *

You may submit an application if your proposal has been subitted for review by IRB, but only research projects that have been fully approved will be eligible for this award. *
