2025 Governor's School for the Arts Counselor Application

Applicant Qualifications and Job Information:
  1. Must be a junior, senior, or graduate student of music, art, theatre, dance, or filmmaking or currently employed in the Arts.
  2. Must be in good academic standing.
  3. Must attach a resume detailing work and experience in music, theatre, technical theatre, filmmaking, visual art, or dance.
  4. Must have two (2) recommendations, one (1) of which must be from a faculty member of college or university which you attend. The other recommendation form may be another faculty member or past employer. Recommendation form link should be shared with recommenders.
  5. Must be available from June 5, 2025 – June 29, 2025. Orientation will be June 5-6, 2024. Students arrive June 7, 2025.
  6. Must be willing to make a complete commitment to the requirements and responsibilities of the job as described below.
  • Stipend: $2,000.00 plus room and board.
  • Deadline for completing application and recommendation forms: February 28, 2025.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Counselors live in the dormitory with students and work daily with students, faculty, and staff. Duties include supervising students in the dormitory, helping with student adjustment and discipline, performing various tasks in support of daily school operations and productions. A successful counselor must be a mature, sensitive, and responsible person who can maintain rapport with teenagers while at the same time maintaining a position of leadership and supportive authority with them. Counselors must also be able to communicate effectively with faculty and students, and must make an absolute commitment to enforcing school rules and regulations which are designed to create a healthy, safe, and positive learning and living environment for gifted and talented adolescents. Counselors must be available for orientation sessions prior to the start of the school and must be free to stay for the duration of the school term.
