Request for Qualifications

Doyon Foundation is pleased to announce a call for linguistics consultants and content creators. These positions will play lead roles in developing a curriculum template that will guide content creation for the online teaching of Dene languages. In addition, they may be required to attend and/or assist in community forums, training, and development events.
 
Content Creator Activities and Desired Qualifications:

Qualified candidates are ideally a speaker and/or teacher of Alaska Athabascan language(s), can read and write in an Athabascan language, follow strict timelines, collaborate well with fellow team members, are creative problem solvers, can work with Alaska Native elders and speakers, and have a passion to learn and teach languages. Potential activities include contributing to development meetings, writing parts of and revising template documents in an online environment, providing language/culture specific examples for template document, and attending training pertaining to the project.

Linguistic Consultant Activities and Desired Qualifications:

Qualified candidates are willing and able to work with all organizations and communities in the region to help perpetuate Doyon region languages and culture and have demonstrated experience guiding or managing Alaska Native Culture and Language projects. Demonstrated language teaching and online language materials development experience is ideal for this contract. Potential activities include contributing to development meetings, writing parts of and revising template documents in an online environment, vetting curriculum planning, and attending training pertaining to the project.

Availability

This phase of the project will span late February 2017 to July 1, 2017. Applicants must be able to manage their time so as to meet the expectations and requirements of the contract without exceeding outlined budget. Budgets vary dependent on services addendum which will be included in the selected applicant's final contract agreement.

Selection

A review committee comprised of representatives from Doyon Foundation will review applications. Applications will be reviewed for relevant work experience, familiarity with Alaska Native language and culture, knowledge of curriculum development, and technical skills.

The selected consultant(s) will be asked for a follow up in person meeting to discuss contract details. They may also be asked to provide examples of previous work with language curriculum. The contract will span late February 2017 to July 1, 2017 with the opportunity for additional contracts once this phase of the project is successfully completed.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.
